Multihoster Download Services - What Are They?

The term 'multihoster' has been around for quite some time, and it's usually used to represent some kind of hosting service: file hosting and image hosting services are relevant examples of this.  When we're speaking about file downloads, however, a multihoster service is more akin to a bundled-account filesharing and file download service than anything else. Now, to be clear, there is a multihoster service that is actually called Multihosters.com, but this service was just smart by capitalizing on the growing popularity of the term and grabbing the domain name: this particular service is not the only multihoster file download option today: not by a long shot.

Multihosters Defined

In this context, a multihoster is a file download service that bundles multiple file hosting download accounts into one single account. Multihosters.com is but one example; there are also numerous others out there, though the most popular options today seem to be RealDebrid and Zevera. For example, Mediafire, Rapidshare, 2shared, Megashares and Netload.in are popular filehosting sites.  In order to download files from these services, however, at least if you want to download a lot of files or download at full speed, you need to purchase a premium account from these services.  These premium accounts cost money, but can be well-worth the investment for heavy downloaders. Services like Zevera and other multihoster services basically give you premium or premium-like access to the filehosting sites you like to download from.  So, instead of paying $10 or €10 for 1-month access to a single filehosting site, you can pay that same amount of money (or thereabouts) to a multihoster service and get premium access to 10, 20, 50 or even more filehosting sites.

Why use multihosters for file downloads?

The primary advantage of choosing a multihoster over a single filehosting site is because you get more value (get to download files from more than one download site) for about the same amount of money. Let's say you find a lot of files you want to download that are available through Extabit.com.    Your choices for downloading files are:
  • You can download them for free.  Though, in doing this, you'll have slow downloads, be subject to download delays and download limits and may not be able to download larger-sized files. This may be tolerable for a few downloads, but not regular downloading.
  • You can buy an Extabit premium membership.  The cost for this is $12.99 USD per month at this time.  This will give you access to just about as many Extabit file downloads as you like.
  • You can buy a membership with a multihoster that offers Extabit downloads.  The costs usually run around  €10 EUR for 30-days access. Zevera is priced as such, Multihosters is  €12.99 but RealDebrid doesn't list their prices publicly (as they apparently vary depending on where you live).  Beyond being able to download files from Extabit, you'll also get access to many more filehosting sites, which just adds more value to the money you already planned on spending.
Beyond the additional value in terms of being able to download more files from more sites for the same money, most multihoster services offer perks like parallel downloads (download multiple files at the same time), free file backup or storage space, unlimited downloads, the ability to use file download mangers and others.

Benefits of using multihosters

Really, the biggest advantages of using a multihoster to download files is that you'll get more value for your money and be able to enjoy more downloads from more sources at much higher speeds, on average, than are available when attempting to use free downloads.  When your time is as valuable, or more valuable, than your money, using a multihoster download service just makes more financial sense than any other premium download option available today.

  2. Google complaints on any multihoster: they all have issues. I use Zevera. Sometimes it sucks, sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's great. For me, anyway, but I'm not picky regarding which download service I use. YMMV if you only use 4 or 5 filehosters. I need to try more services, but really like the privacy of Zevera and frankly don't trust multihosters who want to log my activity and store it.

Of course, in the wake of the NSA wholesale-gobbling up internet traffic and giving that info to other agencies, the point may be moot unless you're outside of the USA, using a VPN or using some non-personally-identifiable internet connection.

  3. I also use Zevera.com and despite all the complaints(and Jamie above is correct all the mhosters out there have pages and pages of complaints) i am satisfied with the services they provide.
